About the Chorus
The BMC Durfee Select Chorus is a group of students, directed by Mrs. Lara-Beth Terry, that meets once a week to learn about group singing and to prepare for school and community concerts. The group sings in four part harmony and sings in a wide variety of musical styles. The chorus performs at least two formal concerts a year, including a Winter and a Spring performance. Each year the chorus takes part in an adjudicated Choral Festival. The chorus has also toured the city's middle schools and given performances in Kennedy Park.
The BMC Durfee Mixed Chorus is a class that meets daily or every other day to learn about group singing and to prepare for school and community concerts. The group also sings in four part harmony and sings in a variety of musical styles. The chorus performs at least two formal concerts a year and the alumni concert.
Music Festivals and Awards
The chorus has received both a silver and gold medal in the Great East and the High Notes Music Festivals in 2008 and 2009 respectively. In April 2012 received a non-competitive award with Good Standing, and in 2013 received a third place award in the Festivals of Music Competition. In Spring 2015, the select chorus competed at Busch Gardens Virginia and received a score of Excellent. Recently, in Spring 2016, the chorus competed in the High Note Music Festival and received a score of Superior!
